With Wayne Fontana they were an R&B band and that’s what they continued to do on their first solo album. They were good at it, too. They do a good, if similar, version of the Temptations’ “The Way You Do the Things You Do.” Songs like “Just a Little Bit” and “Tricky Dicky” - both solid R&B songs - are equally successful/5(6).

The Mindbenders somehow failed to make an impression on record buyers in America -- maybe it was the ubiquitousness of their earlier incarnation as Wayne Fontana & the Mindbenders after their hit "The Game of Love" or the fact that other Manchester-based bands, including the Hollies and Herman's Hermits, scored more hits or got better press coverage in America.
